This Was Supposed To Be From My New iMac
I ordered a new computer two weeks ago now. I know, it takes time to get that shiny new computer delivered. But hear me out.
At first, I was hoping I could finally use that last $1.79 I have on an Amex gift card. The Apple Store allows you to use more than one form of payment, so I thought I was golden. Nope. Next day, I get a message about my order, and I have to call. But it's a weekend, so I have to wait until Monday to sort it out.
Once sorted, they tell me the computer and other stuff I ordered will ship out shortly and arrive . . . when I'm on vacation in San Diego. Well, I don't want an expensive computer sitting on my front stoop while I'm away for days, so I have it shipped to my parent's house. They get the other stuff just fine. But the computer? Well, I tracked it and it arrived in Phoenix on the 15th, which is a Saturday. Now, I saw on the site that that was the expected delivery day, but evidently they didn't even try to deliver it. Oh well, I think. Monday maybe. I get home late Monday to find out that, no, they didn't even try to deliver it again. Well, now I'm back from San Diego, but the computer is still going to my parent's house. Annoying to say the least.
FedEx tries to deliver it on Tuesday. It's on the truck for delivery at 9:30 in the morning, but they don't try to deliver until 7 at night. Possibly because it's home delivery? I don't know. Why not try it in the morning, FedEx? Lots of people work from home, or are, like my parents, and thousands of people in Arizona, retired. No. They try Tuesday night. Which doesn't work out, because on Tuesday nights, my parents are over at my house, helping with the kids and dinner and generally having a good time with their grandchildren.
They finally manage the delivery on Wednesday night, at, again, 7 PM. So, on Thursday morning, I stop by on my way to work, and put the computer in my car so as to have it that night when I get home.
I get home, unbox this gorgeous hunk of loveliness, and that's when I notice: my internet is off, along with my phone and cable. I bang my head on my fine hardwood banker's desk several times, and then proceed to get a few things up and running. However, I don't have internet access so I can't set up my .Mac account on the new system. Or get my backups off my internet storage. Or authorize the computer to get my scheduled downloads out of iTunes.
It's just this huge infuriating string of lousy luck.
I called Cox, looks like it's just my house. Who knows what happened. I did have some landscapers out yesterday, maybe they hacked through a cord or something. Cox is sending someone out on Saturday morning. Which was time I had reserved for dealing with getting the Magnum to a State Farm authorized repair shop, because, once again, it was rear ended as we were going to California. But that's a story for another day.
